Parables - Wisdom for LifeSample
Skyscrapers are tall buildings that tower above the streets around them. They’re strong and made from steel and concrete. 432 Park Avenue in New York is one of the tallest residential buildings in the world. It’s 420 meters (1,396ft) tall, 28 meters (93ft) wide and has 84 stories. However, instead of being rigid and never moving, when strong winds blow, it sways 4 to 5 feet in either direction. This building can withstand strong winds and sway without breaking because it’s built with strong foundations.
People choose to build their lives on all kinds of foundations. It could be money, fame, or popularity. Their foundation might be built on the advice and opinion of others, fear of the future, or the belief that to be happy, you’ve got to have it all. The problem with building on foundations like this is that these things can disappear in a moment. Like sand in a storm, they wash away, causing the house to crumble into the sea.
The only sure foundation for our lives is God and His Word. God’s wisdom is the foundation of our lives. God’s Word gives us wisdom for our lives and shows us how to live and how to love. A life built on this foundation can withstand any storm. The rain may come down, the streams rise, and the winds blow, but the person whose foundation is the wisdom of God will not fall.
God’s wisdom shows us the way to go. It lights the path ahead as we walk and directs our steps. Every part of God’s Word has the wisdom that can teach, transform, and help us grow.
