Jesus explained things by discussing topics that were familiar to His listeners. Just like today, everybody needs to live somewhere, so Jesus taught His listeners by talking about building a house.

He told a story about two men who built their homes on different foundations. Not long after they had completed their houses and moved in, there was a huge storm. The rains came down, streams and rivers rose, and howling winds beat against their houses with great force. What do you think happened to each of the houses?

Jesus wants us to learn that it's important to know God’s Word, but we also need to put it into practice. The wisdom Jesus spoke of then still applies today. We can make wise choices by putting Jesus’ teaching into practice.
