Awaken the Giant Within

DAY 4 OF 5

Day 4: The Christian Perspective on Long-term Commitment

Tony Robbins Quote: "Deciding to commit yourself to long-term results, rather than short-term fixes, is as important as any decision you'll make in your lifetime."

Scripture: James 1:12 - "Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him."

Noah's story is a profound example of long-term commitment. He spent decades building the ark, a task that seemed absurd to many.

Yet, his unwavering faith and commitment to God's command exemplify the essence of long-term dedication.

Noah's story inspires us to stay true to our commitments, even when the end seems far or the journey arduous.

It reminds us that God’s promises are always fulfilled, often beyond our understanding.

In our lives, long-term commitments can be challenging. We live in a world that often values quick fixes and instant gratification.

However, the Christian walk calls for perseverance and steadfastness.

Whether it's a commitment to our faith, relationships, or personal goals, the journey requires patience, trust, and a steadfast focus on God's promises.

There’s a quote I love from Tony Robbins that fits perfectly for today, “You overestimate what you will accomplish in a year and you underestimate what you can do in 10 years.”

Think about that for yourself right now.

I remember when I first began my work with Hillsong. I was tasked with growing and expanding our reach to new audiences and places.

My first-year goal was so ambitious. I went after it with all my might.

But like so many other goals, they didn’t happen that first year. While we did grow, we didn’t grow as fast as I would have hoped.

However, as I reflect on the nearly 10 years that I was there - WOW! We grew significantly. We reached millions of people all over the world.

I was part of helping new audiences discover the music and teachings of Hillsong. Our growth was in the thousands percent increase. It was huge. It was monumental.

For me, I will forever be reminded of the incredible impact I was part of during my time at Hillsong. I’m forever grateful.

However, in the beginning, I was very frustrated. I wanted everything to INCREASE faster. Ha!

We all do right.

Life has taught me, and the scriptures remind me to, “Let patience have its perfect work.”

What about you and your life?

What are you looking to build 20 - 30 years down the road?

What type of legacy are you looking to leave for your family, your children, or your spouse?

One of the questions I always prod clients with is, “What does the end in mind look like for you?”

When you are 90 years old, sitting on a rocking chair on the front porch of your home - what do you want to see?

What do you want to leave behind?

What struggles are worth fighting for?

If your vision and your dream are not big enough - what do you need the Lord for?

The other night as I was about to go to sleep I began reading some of the most impactful chapters of the Bible.

One of those chapters is Hebrews 11 - “The Faith Chapter”.

As I read story after story, faith began to bubble in my soul. It not only bubbled in my soul, but it also enlarged my perspective.

I challenge you to read it for yourself. Read about the heroes of faith. Allow the scriptures to pour into your soul the courage and vision that you need for your life.

One last thing before you go.

In Hebrews 11 it says, “And they died not receiving the promise.”

Your vision and plans may not come to pass in your lifetime.

You may not see the fruit of your labor while you are alive on this earth, and that’s ok.

It’s a reminder to continue to, “Press toward the mark of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

It’s a reminder to allow the Lord to have his perfect work within you.

It’s a reminder to continue to live with the end in mind.

If it’s good enough for Abraham, Isaac, Paul, Peter, and Jesus - it’s good enough for you.

Take some time today to rest in what the Lord has for you. Rest in His presence. Rest in His glory.

Truly lean ON the Lord - He will fight your battles.

Reflective Questions:

  • What long-term commitments are you called to persevere in?
  • How does your faith influence your dedication to these commitments?

Prayer: Lord, help me to remain steadfast in my commitments, trusting in Your timing and faithfulness. Amen.

Affirmation: "Today, I am committed to my long-term goals, trusting in God’s promises and timing."
