Advent: The Coming of Jesus Christ

DAY 12 OF 25

DEVOTIONAL

Today is exciting because we're talking about some very important family members of Jesus. Zechariah was a priest, and his wife's name was Elizabeth. They wanted to have children, but Elizabeth was unable to have children. They were a righteous elderly couple when, miraculously, they were pregnant! Can you guess who the baby was?

About six months into her pregnancy, Elizabeth gets a visit from her relative, Mary (Jesus' mom). When Mary told Elizabeth that she was pregnant with the son of God, Elizabeth was filled with God's spirit and her baby LEAPT for joy. This little baby was SO excited to meet Jesus. It was a precious moment between these pregnant mamas as they celebrated the new additions to their families!

So, who was that baby who lept in Elizabeth's womb? Who was ecstatic about the coming of Jesus?

John the Baptist.

"Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist."Matthew 11:11

Jesus told us that John the Baptist was the greatest. He was responsible for so much evangelism during those days. He even had the honor of baptizing Jesus. John eventually gave his life for Christ in a very gruesome way. But John was utterly sold out for the Gospel! He had unbelievable FAITH. Even as a baby, he leapt for joy at the news of the coming Christ. How cool!

ACTIVITY

Part 1: Take a moment to thank God for people who sacrifice their lives for others. Spend time praying for our service men and women, police officers, firemen, and other heroes!

Part 2: Do you know someone who puts their life on the line? How can you bless someone that comes to mind? How can you include them this Christmas season? Maybe some homemade cookies? Perhaps a dinner date? Let the heroes in your life know they are not forgotten this season.
