Advent: The Coming of Jesus Christ

DAY 15 OF 25

DEVOTIONAL

We're celebrating the last day of "The Bethlehem Candle," which symbolizes FAITH. At this part of the story, Jesus is almost here! Mary was most likely full-term or approaching full-term pregnancy. Let's take a moment to stop and think about the events of the Scripture above.

Mary and Joseph must participate in this annoying census that Caesar Augustus decrees. Far away from their home! Imagine having to walk your family to the DMV. Well, Mary and Joseph had to go much farther! Not only that, Mary is roughly nine months pregnant. She's experiencing all the pregnancy joys and pains: swollen feet and hurt back included. I bet they were READY for Jesus to arrive and were quite frustrated to have to be registered now.

Mary and Joseph were not unlike all of us. They weren't extraordinary people who happened upon extraordinary events. They were an ordinary couple who put their FAITH in an extraordinary God who worked His will through them. We have the option to be a part of His story, too! But thank God we have cars now!

ACTIVITY

Tonight, saddle up in that car for a spontaneous road trip! Remember the hot cocoa. You don't have to go far and should wear your pajamas. Take a trip to look at some Christmas lights. Whether driving through James Island County Park, neighborhoods, or Marion Square, search for beautiful lights!

During your travels, talk about the Bethlehem story and the journey Mary & Joseph had to take. Talk about FAITH and what that means to you. Then crank up that Christmas music and sing at the top of your lungs!
