Day 5: The Revelation of the Power of Submission
Today, we’re talking about what submission really means.
The concept of submission is deeply rooted in the Bible, and it plays a pivotal role in our faith. The Scriptures reveal that God gifts us with human relationships to pass on valuable lessons and empowerments of the Kingdom while also providing protection. On day 5, we’ll explore key biblical verses that illustrate the revelation of the power of submission and how these relationships serve as vessels for growth, empowerment, and protection.
Ephesians 5:21 - “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”
This verse from Ephesians serves as a foundational principle for mutual submission in Christian relationships. It emphasizes that submission should be a mutual endeavor, driven by reverence for Christ. The power of submission in relationships lies in the unity and cooperation that it fosters. When individuals submit to one another, they create an environment where the lessons and empowerments of the Kingdom can be shared and received.
James 4:7-8 - “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God, and he will come near to you.”
James highlights the importance of submitting to God and resisting the devil. This submission leads to empowerment and protection. By surrendering to God and drawing near to Him, believers gain the strength and wisdom needed to resist the enemy’s influence. In this process of submission, God’s lessons are imparted, and His protection is realized.
Hebrews 13:17 - “Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.”
This verse emphasizes the submission to spiritual leaders and the authority they carry. Spiritual leaders have a responsibility to watch over the spiritual welfare of their flock. When believers submit to their guidance, they allow themselves to be nurtured and protected under their care. In this context, submission serves as a conduit for receiving the lessons and empowerments of the Kingdom and finding safety within the community of believers.
1 Peter 5:5 - “Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’”
Peter’s admonition to be subject to elders and to clothe oneself with humility is a powerful revelation of submission. Submission, in this context, is intertwined with humility. Humility is a foundational Kingdom principle, and through submission to others, believers learn to cultivate a humble heart. This humility, in turn, positions them to receive the grace and empowerments of the Kingdom.
Proverbs 3:5-6 - “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
Proverbs provides insight into the power of submission in our relationship with God. To trust the Lord with all our hearts and to acknowledge Him in all our ways is a profound act of submission. It acknowledges our limitations and the need for divine guidance. By submitting to God’s wisdom, believers allow Him to make their paths straight, imparting valuable lessons and ensuring their protection.
The Bible reveals the power of submission in human relationships as a means to pass on the greatest lessons and empowerments of the Kingdom while also providing protection. Submission is not a passive act but an active choice to honor God and respect one another. Through mutual submission, believers create an atmosphere of unity and cooperation where the Kingdom’s lessons and empowerments can be shared.
Submission to God’s authority and the authority of spiritual leaders enables believers to receive divine guidance and protection. In humility, they position themselves to experience the grace of the Kingdom. Ultimately, the revelation of the power of submission highlights the interdependence of God’s design for human relationships, where each individual’s role is to pass on valuable lessons and empowerments while contributing to the protection and growth of one another. Submission is not a sign of weakness but a profound act of trust in God’s wisdom and an expression of love and reverence for Him.
