DAY 7 OF 15

Peter was one of Jesus’ closest disciples and he spent a lot of time learning from Him and watching Him work. Like the apostle Paul, Peter wrote letters to surrounding churches to help them in their understanding of the Gospel and how to live for Jesus.

In 1 Peter chapter 4, Peter reminds the church firstly of the life they came from before they knew Jesus and His ways. Secondly, Peter reminds them of how they have changed; they were living in a way that didn't honour God and now they were living a life following Jesus.

This came with a new problem for the people Peter was writing to. Their old friends didn’t want to be around them anymore and were saying bad and untrue things about them. The new followers of Jesus lost their old friends and felt alone.

We’re not meant to live the God-life on our own! With this in mind, Peter encouraged the church to support one another as much as possible. There are some things that only one person can do -- a unique gift from God that we can use to serve others. But there are also some things everyone can do. Loving one another is a gift that everyone can use!

When everyone serves God with their gifts, the Church and God’s Kingdom is built. Each person has a part to play. God doesn’t just reserve gifts for a special few; His gifts are for all of us! Each of you have so many gifts and talents. God wants to work through you to do great things! God gives us spiritual gifts in our life with Jesus so we can play our part in building His kingdom. You can serve God with your gifts.
