Jesus First: A Study on EphesiansSample
Discover
In Revelation 2:4, we see the conclusion of the church in Ephesus. Within this passage, Ephesus is commended for their good works but called out for losing their first love. Here they are urged to return to their first love because their works will still result in death if their faith is absent.
Learn
As you have read through the entire letter of Ephesians, this passage in Revelation is a strong reminder that we need to reflect on our salvation journey. Are you in any way like the Ephesian church in Revelation? Have you allowed your pursuit and passion for Christ to be tampered with by your busyness, distractions, or even legalistic practices?
Apply
There is an excellent remedy for the Church in Ephesus to return to their first love: to repent. Just as the church in Ephesus is called to repent and return, you are granted the same invitation. What are the areas in your life that you need to repent from to rekindle your love for Christ? What is one practical way to turn from your sin today and accept the mighty grace that Jesus offers? I pray that you will remember the joy of your salvation and the depth of God’s great love for you through your repentance. When you seek God this way, you will find that your good works are rooted in God’s love for you and others.
About this Plan
There is no greater joy in life than one with Jesus first. The book of Ephesians teaches us that the gospel unites and motivates us to live for Christ. Through Christ's sacrifice, we receive God's love, forgiveness, and deliverance. This new identity in Christ calls us to imitate Him in all aspects of our lives, including our relationships and our battle against the darkness in the world.
