Living a Life WorthySample
Day 6: Generosity
Today, we are finishing up our devotional with the pillar of practicing generosity. As followers of Jesus, we must look to God as our example of what true generosity looks like. God gave up His one and only Son, Jesus, to die the criminal’s death that we all deserve. God is generous with His love, grace, and mercy for us. I believe there are three areas of a believer’s life that should be marked by generosity. We should practice generosity with our time, talents, and treasures.
Time is something that we all have been blessed with by God. We can use that time to generously build our own kingdom or build God’s Kingdom. We are called to love people and oftentimes love is spelled T-I-M-E. The more generous we are with our time by spending it loving, serving, and praying for people, the more we are like Jesus.
Talents are the gifts that God has blessed you with. Whether it be sports, music, speaking, or art, there are unique talents that you have. Sadly, we use those talents to prop ourselves up instead of pointing people to Jesus. How are you using your talent to give God glory?
Treasures are the things that you have collected here on earth. Specifically, your money, car, home, and influence. Are you using things that you’ve been given by God to glorify Him? God doesn’t need your stuff, but the temptation for many of us is that we don’t need God because we have so much stuff to rely on. You have been blessed by God with the things you have to be a blessing to others.
Next Steps
My challenge for you today is to reflect on these three areas of your life and determine if you’re truly being generous with what God has given you. Write down these three questions and spend time prayerfully answering these questions.
- How much time am I spending building God’s Kingdom?
- How am I bringing God glory through my talents?
- How am I using my treasures to love God and love people?
