Going Places

DAY 22 OF 28

Have you ever been nervous to talk about a belief with your friends? You may not have known how they'd respond or how if it might change your friendship. When we're in this situation, we might even choose to stay quiet, but if we do that, how can we expect to grow?

As Jesus and his disciples were traveling, Jesus shared something that shook them to their core. He explained how he was heading to Jerusalem, where he would die and be raised to life three days later. After hearing this, Peter took Jesus aside and started to get after him. Jesus trusted his disciples with who he was, and Peter trusted Jesus with his really strong, negative reaction to this news. In each of their examples, we see a glimpse of how trusting and loving our friendships can be.

Each of our friendships can become spaces for curiosity, listening, and learning. When we're looking out for our friends, we can learn how to speak kindly and honestly with one another about the things we believe. We can trust each other to receive what we share and to courageously talk about our beliefs with the people we love.

Learning how to hold these conversations is as simple as asking lots of questions and really trying to understand. We can help each other by being authentic, gentle, and respectful in all of our interactions with our friends. With these things in mind, we can have honest conversations and know friends aren't afraid to talk about their beliefs.
