Romans - Part 1: SINSample

Romans - Part 1: SIN

DAY 11 OF 35

Romans 1:21-23. The Great Exchange

They exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man.

In these verses, Paul points out that there is a fundamental problem with mankind. Man fails to magnify the glory of God in his heart. Instead, man gives his heart over to worshipping people or things other than God. This is known as idolatry.

Is there something you are putting above God in your life?

Your family, your career, money, status, or material things? If you’re not sure, ask God to show you. Scripture reveals that God created all things, including man, to worship Him and to bring glory to Him.

“Day and night they never stop saying, ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come.’…..’You are worthy, our Lord and God to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.’” - Rev. 4:8 & 11

The reference to the “glory of God” is seen sixty times in Paul’s writings. The only light that can illuminate man’s heart is the glory of God and the only way for man’s heart to become light is through beholding Jesus, the Light of the world. As Jesus says,

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good your whole body will be full of light” - Matt. 6:22.

So, we fix our eyes on Jesus; we magnify, glorify, and worship Him above all. He alone deserves to be the central and sole focus of our worship. He is the only one Holy, eternal, immortal, invisible, and wise God, worthy to occupy the space in our hearts. Everything else is a cheap substitute.

Today, how will you keep Jesus on the throne of your heart?
