Romans - Part 1: SINSample

Romans - Part 1: SIN

DAY 14 OF 35

Romans 1:28-32 Prodigal Son Situation

When asked to do this devotion, I didn’t know how close to home it would hit. I was raised in the church and always had a love for God. However, there was a period when I fell away from my relationship with the Lord.

I see my story unfold in these verses from Romans, one of my favorite books in the Bible. In verse 28, God abandons the foolish to their desires. Previous verses, 18,19 and 24, speak of knowing the truth, yet becoming wicked. This incites God’s wrath (v 29). Becoming wicked, the foolish produce rotten fruit, like hate, deception, gossip, etc. They revert back to their sinful nature (previous v 20). As a result of their sinful nature, they become haters of God (v 30), knowing God, but not worshiping Him (previous v 21,22). They invent new ways of sinning and become proud of their sinful ways, becoming heartless (v 31) as they dive further into the depths of their sin. They begin to make God in their own image (v 23). trading the truth for a lie (v 25,26,27); they know better, but don’t care. They show no remorse for their sins, but Paul says (v 31) what’s worse is that they encourage others to commit sinful acts.

In my story, given over to sinful desires, I found myself in a prodigal son situation. With the prompting of the Holy Spirit, I came back to the foot of the cross. Thank God that His faithful love endures forever.

Jesus. Changes. Everything!
