A Letter to TeensSample
The Adventure
Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth; Walk in the ways of your heart, and in the sight of your eyes; But know that for all these, God will bring you into judgment (Ecclesiastes 11:9)
Your teenage years are full of adventure and exploration, whether you're enjoying the great outdoors or diving into a good book. This is a time when you're learning to make decisions and chasing after your dreams. You'll be faced with many choices, and it's important to keep Solomon's advice in the above verse in mind as you navigate this exciting phase of your life.
This is a wonderful time for you to pursue your interests, not a time for just studying or for school activities, which are important but not everything. Enjoying yourself and resting are important too. After all, even God rested on the seventh day.
Open your eyes and mind to all the possibilities around you, and never be afraid to try new things. Trust in God's plan for your life, and know that everything you experience in your youth is part of His great design. But always remember to keep God at the centre of your pursuits.
Love should be the foundation of all that you do. Ask yourself, "Is what I'm doing helping or harming others?" And don't forget to respect your parents and learn from their advice, even if you don't always see eye-to-eye.
As you expand your social circle, be sure to surround yourself with friends who will encourage and support you in your faith. You may encounter different worldviews and face challenges to your beliefs, but don't let that shake your faith. Having doubts and questions is okay - it's all part of your journey. Just remember your identity in Christ, and trust that God has a plan for you.
In a world that's always pushing us to compete and achieve, it's important to remember that our accomplishments do not determine our worth. Even if your friends seem to have more success, material possessions, or opportunities, know that your true value comes from what Christ has done for you on the cross. Keep striving to be your best, but always remember to offer your achievements to God. Whatever happens, God is unchanging and will always love you.
