A Letter to Teens

DAY 2 OF 7

Who Am I?

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

When we're young, we often ask ourselves the question, "Who am I?" It can be hard to figure out with all the noise and distractions around us, especially from social media. We see people living their best lives and feel we need to do the same to fit in.

Is your identity in the likes you get? Sure, it’s nice to be surrounded by people who “love” you, but that’s not what it’s about. Is it in your After-School Activities or academic work? Yes, putting thought into your schoolwork is important, but grades do not define us. It makes us wonder, what are we here on earth for?

There's a story about an eagle chick that teaches us an important lesson. The eagle was born in a chicken coop and didn't know it could fly until it saw another eagle soaring in the sky. Once it realized its true identity, it flew higher than ever before.

We can find our true identity in Christ Jesus. We are sons and daughters of God, new creations who are righteous in His eyes because of what Jesus did for us. We don't need to worry about fitting in with the world's standards or feeling lonely because our path is different. We are different because we belong to God's family, even if we might not have the most followers or be at the top of the class. All these achievements are superficial if we know our true value is knowing Jesus loves us.

Once you know this, everything you do will prosper, not because you are trying to impress your friends or teachers, but because everything you do is for He who cares for and knows you.

We can live confidently and purposefully when we see ourselves as God sees us. We don't need to fear what others think of us because we know who we are in Christ. So, take a moment to pause and behold yourself as the Lord sees you and embrace your true identity in Him.
