A Dozen Easter Bible Stories for Kids, Children, & Kiddos

DAY 5 OF 12

Betrayed! Jesus Prayed

Betrayed! Jesus Prayed

Main Point: Jesus prayed, “Father, not My will, but Your will be done.”

Be on the lookout! Questions

How do we know that the Father in heaven heard Jesus’s prayers? (Hint: God sent something to Him.)

Kid’s Devotional:

After their last meal, when it was dark, Jesus and his 11 friends went to a garden called Gethsemane. His friends were very sad because they knew something bad was going to happen to Jesus. He had told them that someone would betray him and one of his friends, Judas, had left. He was going to tell the people who wanted to kill Jesus where to find him.

In the garden, Jesus went farther on to pray by himself, but his friends fell asleep because they were so sad. Jesus prayed to God, asking him to take away the suffering he knew he was going to have to go through. He was going to be hurt and killed on a cross. He repeated this prayer, but he also said that he wanted to do what God wanted him to do. God didn’t take away the suffering, but sent an angel to give Jesus strength to complete God’s plan. That plan included that the Savior would have to suffer and die on a cross.

When a crowd came to arrest Jesus, one of his friends tried to fight them and cut off a man's ear. But Jesus stopped the fight and healed the man's ear. Jesus knew that he had to go with the people who were arresting him because it was part of God's plan. Jesus was going to be a sacrifice so people could be saved from death. What does that remind you of from earlier stories? [The Passover lamb]

Now you remember, kiddo, Grandma Goodie loves you but God loves you more!

Pray:

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for loving us so much that you were willing to suffer and die.

You were innocent, like that little lamb, but you let yourself become a sacrifice.

Thank you for showing us that the Father’s will is best, even when it was so hard for you.

Amen!

Play Ideas:

This story is so sad, Grandma Goodie doesn’t feel like playing. If you want to, you could act out these scenes:

1.A crowd of guards arrives with weapons, ready to arrest Jesus.

2.A sword fight starts and Peter draws his sword.

3.Peter cuts off the ear of a servant of the High Priest.

4.Jesus stops the fight and picks up the man’s ear.

5.Jesus puts it back on the man’s head and heals it.

6.Then Jesus lets them arrest him.

7.The guards tie Jesus up and lead him away.

Or you could tell a story of a time you felt the sad or afraid or were suffering. Remember that Jesus became a man and felt those things too. God sent help from
