A Dozen Easter Bible Stories for Kids, Children, & KiddosSample
Passover, Part 2: Kept Safe as Death Passed Over
Main Point: If you want to understand Easter, get to know Passover!
Kids Devo:
Do you wonder why we’re starting our Easter Bible stories with a Jewish holiday? Jesus was Jewish. He grew up celebrating Passover every year. God commanded that through Moses and wrote it in the Bible. What people today call Easter is all about what happened during the last week that Jesus celebrated Passover in Jerusalem over 2000 years ago. But it changed all of history! Some Christians call that Easter week. Be watching to see connections between Passover and Easter as you see all of Grandma Goodie’s Easter Bible Story videos.
We also have a mystery to solve. After Jesus’s time on earth, his followers spread the Good News about Jesus. One wrote, “For indeed, Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us” (1 Corinthians 5:7). What does that mean? Keep watching and be alert to see how Jesus is our Passover! Talk over what you think about that.
And remember, kiddo, Grandma Goodie loves you but God loves you more!
Let's Pray:
Dear God,
Thank you for giving us holidays to celebrate.
Help me to remember the things you did that we are celebrating still today.
Please show me the connection between the Passover holiday and what we call Easter.
Amen
Play Ideas:
Pretend that you are one of the children of Israel, inside the safe house that night. Lay down with sandals on your feet. Have a walking stick nearby. Then have a grownup say, “Hurry get up! It’s time to run!” Hop up, grab your walking stick and hurry off. Act like you are slaves who are running toward freedom.
Get some Matza and a bitter herb like ginger root and taste them.
