Have you ever felt disappointed when something you hoped for didn't happen? Cleopas and his friend felt that way as they walked home from Jerusalem. They had hoped that Jesus would become king and free Israel from the Roman rulers. But instead, Jesus was crucified. They felt sad and confused.

As they were walking, a man they didn't recognize joined them. It was actually Jesus, but they couldn’t see that yet. This man asked them what was wrong, and they told Him their stories. He explained how Moses and the prophets predicted that the Messiah had to suffer and die before He would rise again.

When they arrived home, they invited the man (really Jesus) to stay for dinner. When He broke the bread, they suddenly recognized Jesus! Jesus was alive! Then, he suddenly disappeared! They were amazed! They ran back to Jerusalem to tell the other disciples that Jesus was alive. They had seen Him and His new superpowers!

What would it take for you to believe that Jesus Christ was risen? Can you imagine what it was like to see Jesus reveal himself and then disappear? How would you tell others about it?

Dear Jesus,

Thank you for dying and rising again, alive from the dead.

Please help us to understand what that means for our lives.

Please help me learn how the writings of Moses and the Prophets taught us about Jesus.
