DAY 5 OF 6

Day 5 – Bridge

My favorite part of the song is the bridge. I use a “hallelujah moment” to make room to worship the Lord. Today, we’ll go through each lyric line by line.

Let us shout, “Holy is the Lord.”

There is no greater love than His

Don’t be afraid; there’s no reason to fear, for Emanuel is here

The first part of the bridge, “Let us shout ‘Holy is the Lord,’” comes from Isaiah 6:3 (NKJV), which says, And one cried unto another, and said: Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!

When I read this verse, I picture the angels flying around the throne room of God, shouting to one another how holy the Lord is and saying it with such great excitement and reverence that it stirs up my soul. I thought that if the angels are that moved by God’s holy presence, shouldn’t we be as well? The following line is, “There is no greater love than His,” which comes from John 15:13 (NKJV). It says:

Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.

The greatest example of what this verse implies is Jesus, who made the ultimate sacrifice on the cross so that we might, through His death, live forever with Him in glory. As a young child attending church with my family, I learned about Christ’s crucifixion. As I grew up, I heard the retelling of that story over and over again. Although I believed that Jesus died for our sins, I didn’t fully grasp the brutality that Jesus endured until I saw the film The Passion of the Christ. That was the most accurate and vivid portrayal of a first-century Roman crucifixion that anyone has ever seen—and probably will ever see. There was no dry eye in the entire theater, and it was packed. Think about this: if that was the price Jesus willingly paid so we could be with the Father for eternity, don’t you think it would be absurd for us to consider that God is not with us at every moment of every day?

The last line of the bridge is a response to the verses. We will go through trials and tribulations, but the good news is we will go through them, not stay in them because God is with us. I intentionally used the word Emanuel, which the prophets spoke about His birth. Emanuel means “God with us.”
