Rule Book of Life - the BibleSample
9:7 OBEDIENCE or DISOBEDIENCE
What are the first two words uttered by children when they begin to speak? - yes/no. There may be a Momma or Dadda in there as well. Yes or No though are often uttered - and more times than not, it is No. And in officiating, we are called to make lots of decisions - yes or no to fouls and violations. We cannot be lukewarm in our decision-making process. We have to be firm in our decision-making process. It does not ensure we will be 100% correct on every play (that is nearly impossible). It is a reminder though for us to be firm & steadfast with the decisions we make both on and off the floor. Getting plays right requires us to be focused, to listen, and apply the rules consistently every night.
The Transfiguration is one of the most famous accounts of the Synoptic Gospels (found in Matthew 17, Mark 9 and Luke 9). It is an amazing account filled with awe and wonder. I so often overlooked this one short verse: this is my beloved Son, listen to Him. While God the Father speaks a lot in the Old Testament, there are only a few accounts of God the Father speaking in the New Testament. Jesus, with his three closest friends, has His glory revealed on his journey to Jerusalem and the Cross. And God the Father says very clearly to the three frightened disciples, this is my BELOVED Son - listen to Him. Listening to the voice of God is not easy - just look at Elijah’s story in 1 Kings. To walk humbly with the Lord, we must listen and often it will be in that “still small voice” (1 Kings 19:12).
How can we better listen to the voice of God speaking to us this season?
Where do you see the Lord calling you to “follow Him” this season?
About this Plan
Sports officials are charged with enforcing the rules as written. We may not like all the rules but our job is to enforce every rule. Jesus says in John 14:15 - “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” We don’t get to pick & choose what to follow. Let’s look at some verses that help us to stay on the path of “keeping the rule book of life.”
