Rule Book of Life - the Bible

DAY 6 OF 11

6:31 THE GOLDEN RULE

This verse is often referred to as the Golden Rule - we want to be treated well ALL THE TIME. But how often do we reflect on how well we treat others? Talking badly about others; gossiping about this referee on “that game”. Jealousy & envy can easily be ingrained in the minds of officials. We would not want people talking badly about us in locker rooms. Why is it so easy for us to fall into this trap? We need to say, “Stop - this conversation is NOT going to happen in ‘our’ locker room tonight.”

Then there are the fans. Fans yell & scream at us about our calls. That is inevitable. Sometimes the comments can be cruel and vulgar. How do we respond? Do we get angry? Do we engage that person in the first row who is yelling at us? The Lord issues a very tough command for us even in these difficult situations. For the measure with which we measure shall be measured out to us (Luke 6:38).

How can we better respond to hostile arena situations this season?

How can we better respond to hostile coaches and players this season?

How can we stop gossiping among ourselves about other officials?

About this Plan

Rule Book of Life - the Bible

Sports officials are charged with enforcing the rules as written. We may not like all the rules but our job is to enforce every rule. Jesus says in John 14:15 - “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” We don’t get to pick & choose what to follow. Let’s look at some verses that help us to stay on the path of “keeping the rule book of life.”
