Rule Book of Life - the BibleSample
1:1 THE BEGINNING
When you prepare for each season, which rule do you start with? Do you jump right in or do you start at the beginning? We each have different methods for reviewing and studying the Rule Book. John’s Gospel begins very differently from the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke. John focuses on the big picture - who Jesus is. That is what He wants to communicate to us.
So what Gospel verse do you think of when you see John 1:1? Do you think of Jesus? How important is the Word in your daily life and officiating life? Throughout the season we see 3am wake-up calls to catch flights or begin long drives to games. Do we neglect the Word or say “I will get to it later”? Chances are, we may not get to it later.
John reminds us that in the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God and the Word was God. Jesus is the Word. What better way for us to start each day than spend a few minutes with Jesus!
What spiritual disciplines do you start each day with?
How does your in season routine change with regard to spending time in God’s Word?

About this Plan
Sports officials are charged with enforcing the rules as written. We may not like all the rules but our job is to enforce every rule. Jesus says in John 14:15 - “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” We don’t get to pick & choose what to follow. Let’s look at some verses that help us to stay on the path of “keeping the rule book of life.”
