Beatitudes - Sermon on the MountSample

Jesus started His Sermon on the Mount with the beatitudes or ‘blessings.’ We’re blessed when we rely on God, blessed when we care for others and blessed when we put God first. Jesus said we're blessed when we are:
- grieving
- humble
- obedient
- merciful
- pure-hearted
- peacemakers
- mistreated
This doesn’t sound like being blessed, does it? But remember, these verses also have promises for us, like:
- belong to the kingdom of heaven
- comfort
- the earth belonging to the humble
- given what they want
- treated with mercy
- see God
- called God’s children
- a great reward in heaven!
That second list is pretty amazing, but the truth is we don’t follow Jesus and enter His Kingdom just for the blessings we’ll get out of it. The greatest reward we receive is forgiveness and a relationship with Jesus. Knowing Him is what it’s all about, and knowing Jesus is better than anything!
As part of God’s Kingdom, we put Him first and can trust Him to provide for us in every area of our life. In our family, our health, our friendships, and our dreams. We can trust God with all of it.
