Beatitudes - Sermon on the Mount

DAY 7 OF 15

Jesus and the disciples travelled from town to town, teaching people about God’s Kingdom. People everywhere began to hear about Jesus and wanted to know more about Him. People who were sick with all kinds of illnesses came to meet Jesus; some were in pain, some had been sick for a long time, and some couldn’t walk. Jesus cared for them and healed them all. Crowds of people started to follow Him wherever He went; they came from all over - Galilee, Jerusalem, Judea, and across the Jordan River.

While Jesus was in one of the towns, He met a man who had a skin disease all over his body. When the man saw Jesus, he fell to the ground begging, “Lord heal me and make me clean!” And right away, he was healed. Jesus told the man not to tell anyone yet, and instead to go to the priest and bring an offering so they would know he was made clean. But the news about Jesus spread even more, and the crowds that followed Him grew and grew.

When Jesus went up onto a mountainside and began to teach what we now call His Sermon on the Mount, it was not just the disciples who heard His words that day. The crowds listened on as He taught them about God’s Kingdom. Jesus taught His followers that they would be blessed when caring for others, showing others kindness and compassion. Jesus promised blessings for those who have pure hearts and make peace with one another. The crowds that followed Jesus had heard of His love and care for others; they had seen Him heal every sickness and disease. People who had been cast aside because of their illness were not only healed physically; they were restored back into their community. Jesus showed that in God’s Kingdom, you’re blessed when you care for others.
