Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
Hope for All of Life
Love is a powerful force in the world. There are movies, songs, art, poems, and so much else focused on it, trying to capture what it feels like to love and be loved. When you think of who loves you the most in this world, who comes to mind? What does that feel like? When you think of who you love the most in this world, who is that? When you think about God, do you feel His love for you? Do you feel Him close to you? Do you know His heart for you and the depth of His love for you? It can be difficult to really receive how loved and cared for you are.
In this Psalm, we see a man who has a deep understanding of God even since his youth (v. 17). He is still declaring truth about God and his love in his older age. He has experienced God to be his rock and fortress (v. 3) and his hope and confidence (v. 5). He writes about God's mighty deeds (v. 16), His power (v. 18), and the great things He has done (v. 19). God is his comfort, and he praises Him. In our young age, we can grow deeply in understanding the Love God has for us, and we can experience Him in incredible ways so that no matter what comes our way in life, He is our firm foundation. There are some great foundations in the Psalm to choose to build into our lives every day: trust (v. 3), praise (v. 6), hope (v. 17), and serving and sharing (v 8,15 - 18 and 24.) The psalmist knows God is his rock and fortress, no matter what comes in life. As we grow in Him through life, He won’t ever leave us, and He will be all we need.
GO DEEP: How do you want to grow? Which of these foundations mentioned would you like to grow in with God? Ask Him to show you any practical steps He would like you to take today to help you grow in that foundation.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
