Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the PsalmsSample
He Watches Over Us
There is evidence all around us of corruption and evil. We can see it in the shows and movies we stream. We see it on the news. We hear it in the way our peers speak to one another. We know it by the way many of our politicians and rulers lead us. David saw it in his day, too. In verse 1 he complains, "The fool says in his heart, 'There is no God.' They are corrupt, doing abominable iniquity; there is none who does good.”
What do we do when we look around and all we can see is evil and corruption? What do we do when it feels like evil is winning? David was able to proclaim God's future victory by the end of the Psalm - "Oh what salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When God restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice, let Israel be glad." Verse 2 tells us that "God looks down from heaven on the children of man to to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God." God doesn't just leave us to deal with the evil. He watches over us from heaven and sees those of us who seek Him.
David had confidence in God's victory and salvation. He prayed to God regularly and praised Him for what He knew would happen in the future. When you look around and all you can see is evil and corruption, you can be confident of God's rule and victory, too. It may not feel like God is in control, but you can pray for His peace and confidence in those times. You can pray for your peers all over the world, too, who experience evil and corruption in their cities and villages daily.
GO DEEP: Talk to God about how you can relate to David's psalm. Pray for peace and confidence in those situations. Choose a different country where you know there is evil and corruption. Spend time praying for teens in that country.
BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
