Psalms Streak: A Daily Devotional in the Psalms

DAY 27 OF 161

Who Are You Sitting With?

Have you noticed how you become like the people you spend time with? You begin to share the same hobbies, habits, and vocabulary. Maybe you have a best friend and you are so alike, people mistake you for being part of the same family! We all influence others and are influenced by others. Take a moment to think about how you are currently influencing the people around you. How are you being influenced?

David knew that the people whom he had around him impacted his life and the way he lived. Let’s have a look at verses 4-5 of Psalm 26:

“I do not sit with the deceitful, nor do I associate with hypocrites.
I abhor the assembly of evildoers and refuse to sit with the wicked.”

David recalls how he doesn’t sit with deceitful people nor associate with hypocrites. He refuses to hang around with the wicked and avoids evildoers. Can you say the same about those around you? In order to be able to say “I lead a blameless life” (v. 11), do you need to consider who you are sitting with?

GO DEEP: Who are you hanging around with at the moment? Are they a good influence? How can you positively impact the people around you? Take some time today to think about how you are being influenced and how you can influence others to live blameless lives.

BE BOLD: Who needs to hear this? Who could you share it with?
