Being Humble

Therefore thus says the Lord God: Because it towered high and set its top among the clouds, and its heart was proud of its height, I will give it into the hand of a mighty one of the nations. He shall surely deal with it as its wickedness deserves. I have cast it out.

Ezekiel 31:10-11 (ESV)

Assyria was successful and strong because God gave Israel to them. However, they were intoxicated by their achievements and were proud in their hearts. Eventually, God destroyed them.

It is not easy for people to handle a position of power or authority because there is always that danger of pride coming in. Pride is self-deceiving; when you have a problem with pride, you don’t see it in your life. We learned from the above verses; God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. Jesus is the perfect example of humility. Being humble means before God we are no better than anyone else. We are saved by God’s grace. Being humble means recognising all we have is from God, and we rely on God.

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You came from Heaven to Earth to become a man, to live for us, give Your life for us, and be resurrected for us. All along You have showed us love and humility. We want to spend time with You to learn from You and understand You, so that we can continue to grow closer to You. Lord, show us how to be humble of heart, like You. In Jesus Mighty name I pray, Amen.
