Through the Bible: Ezekiel

DAY 10 OF 17

Nothing is Outside His Reach

Son of man, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon made his army labor hard against Tyre. Every head was made bald, and every shoulder was rubbed bare, yet neither he nor his army got anything from Tyre to pay for the labor that he had performed against her. 19 Therefore thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will give the land of Egypt to Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he shall carry off its wealth and despoil it and plunder it; and it shall be the wages for his army.
Ezekiel 29:18-19 (ESV)

In the previous chapters, God pronounced judgement over the people of Israel as a result of their rebellion. Granted, God is the God of Israel who led them out of slavery to establish them as a nation under His reign. And now the focus is shifted to the “foreign nations”. In today’s Scripture, God is using Babylon to execute His wrath against Egypt after dealing with Tyre – nations that people might have assumed to be “outside the scope” of the God of Israel. Yet, the Lord God is the God of all nations. As the King of kings and Lord of lords, even nations that do not know Him can still be mobilised to execute His plans for the good of those who love Him, who are called according to His purposes.

Prayer

Father God, we thank You for being our good Father. Everything is under Your sovereign hands. No matter where we are, no matter what is happening around the world, we can be still and know that You are God. Thank You for never leaving us or forsaking us. We trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Ezekiel

By the river Chebar, Ezekiel prophesied both judgement and hope to the exiles of Judah, who were just removed from the Promised Land. Although the people cried out, “Our bones are dried up and our hope is lost,” Ezekiel reassured them that God would always provide a way to restore His people. Punishment is grueling, but sometimes it is meant to bring us back to repentance and humility before God.
