Through the Bible: Jeremiah

DAY 4 OF 19

Boasting His Greatness

Thus says the Lord: “Let not the wise man boast in his wisdom, let not the mighty man boast in his might, let not the rich man boast in his riches, but let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 9:23-24 (ESV)

In Jeremiah 9:23-24,  Israel is told to boast for the glory of God, boasting of His flawless character; His unfailing love to Israel, His kindness and righteousness. When they boast about who God is, they will not boast about their wisdom, their military power or their possessions, but boast that God loves His people. God is Israel’s only hope.

When we accept Jesus, He gives His strength to replace our weakness. There is a new perspective to look at our lives and surroundings; we now have the mind of Christ. Every change in us is because of Jesus. Every good deed, wisdom, knowledge and understanding, comes straight from Him. The world thinks they have all the answers, but that old way of thinking leads to the same, dead results. It is futile and fruitless.  Let us glorify the King of kings by boasting in His greatness and celebrating His goodness.

Prayer

God, we pray that You would deliver us from boasting in these other things that the world constantly tempts us to boast in. Help us to seek You and to understand You, so that we can continue to grow closer to You. Lord help us to accomplish what You put us here on earth for so that we can be satisfied in that. In Jesus' Mighty name I pray,  Amen.

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Jeremiah

Jeremiah, the author of this book, was born in approximately 650 BC. He was called by God to prophesy to the southern kingdom of Judah of the imminent judgement due to their disobedience to God. Often mocked and beaten for his prophecies, Jeremiah remained faithful to his calling. Though Judah was given forty years to repent, the people continued in sin and were eventually exiled to Babylon in 586 BC.
