Uncuffed: Bulletproofing the Police MarriageSample
Affairs and Temptation
Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.
1 Corinthians 6:18
Affairs don’t start in the bedroom. They start with a glance, a returned look, a longing glare at their body, an acknowledgment that it’s pleasing to see, and stimulation to the fantasy of thought.
Affairs come to fruition because the married offender is conceited with a prideful spirit into thinking it’s okay this one time, their spouse will never find out, or God will forgive them.
Is living the shady life that important for filling a void in your spirit? If so, there’s much more going down than an overactive sex drive. There is no peace in darkness, but there is pleasure in the light of purity and a vibrant, healthy sex life with your spouse.
We love the old saying, “If the grass is greener on the other side, then it’s time to water your own lawn.” It takes discipline, sacrifice and self-control to live and strive in the LEO life.
These are the same personal qualities to remain committed to your spouse. If we’re going to be heroes, then that goes without stopping. It’s not a hat we can take off or put on to fit the situation. It’s part of who we are.
“Yeah, but it’s hard with all that temptation.” You might say. It’s only hard if you allow the circumstances that create temptation. The best way to handle it is found where else? God’s word.
CALL TO ACTION:
Accept that temptation is a part of life. It happened in the most perfect setting in all of human history (Garden of Eden), and it will happen with all of you. Temptation takes on many forms, but sexual sin is one of the most destructive to marriages.
Take a personal, emotional, and spiritual assessment to determine if you have or might encounter relationships that are leading to an affair or cloud your thoughts with temptation. Pray God takes the desire out of your heart for that other person, while renewing the passion for your spouse.
