Uncuffed: Bulletproofing the Police MarriageSample
The Game Changer
Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.
Ephesians 4:32
If there was only one thing you both had to change to help develop a 2:24 Unit, it would be to start praying together. Not praying just before meals or at a holiday gathering, but going before God in prayer daily.
When times get tough, we usually go ghost or force our way into the situation without fully understanding the underlying circumstances. Either way, the over or under response usually ramps up the initial issue.
Moving into active and expectant prayer will do more for your 2:24 Unit than buying roses and rings. Failing to pray together is an unproductive response to an ongoing situation. This isn’t a case of letting sleeping dogs lie. Get in the fight.
Armor up with the word of God and allow Him to defeat all of your enemies who stand against your LEO marriage. God will bless your marriage for your faithfulness to prayer.
In order to build a truly 2-as-1 marriage, you must pray together. It changes everything from the way you speak to each other to the way you treat each other. I’ll share that I have a “take charge” tendency that doesn’t always come across as kind. Once Leah and I began praying together, I understood the power of loving speech.
Men as the God-ordained head of the home should take the point on this assignment. Yet, seldom do men feel comfortable starting the practice of prayer.
Here’s How to Start Praying Together:
- Keep your prayers casual.
- Schedule a set time each day to pray.
- Keep your prayers short but to the point.
- Don’t worry about memorizing scripture.
- Open your mouth and your heart will follow.
- Ask your spouse if there are prayer requests.
- Be sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s presence.
CALL TO ACTION:
If you are not praying together, then start doing that. If you are praying together, then press deeper into prayer and begin writing out a prayer request list.
