Spiritual Discipline

DAY 4 OF 6

THE PROCESS

Becoming a Christian is more than just an instant conversion. Becoming a Christian is a daily process of becoming more and more like Christ. When a person believes in Jesus as his spiritual Lord and Savior, he becomes a spiritual baby. A spiritual baby needs spiritual nourishment in the form of simple Bible lessons. After that, he needs to gradually learn how to live as a Christian.

He may fall in the course of life. He could have made mistake after mistake, but he still gets up and walks through life. However, many people have stopped growing. They remain spiritual babies for the rest of their lives. It is pathetic, isn’t it? Just as our parents expect growth, our spiritual parents (our heavenly Father) also expect us to experience spiritual growth. Yes, we can fall, but we can get up and continue growing to become adults in the Lord. God needs adults to serve His work.

The Lord has initiated what is good in us through salvation. Salvation is free. We don't have to do anything to receive it because Christ has done it by dying on the cross. However, salvation itself is a process that will continue until the day of the Lord Jesus Christ. This process continues throughout our lives. If we believe that He has made us beautiful in due time, then we must be willing and submissive to God's process—like branches that are cleansed to bear fruits and the vessels that are ready to be used as the vessels of glory.

Therefore, let us have a passion for growth. Do not be satisfied with a mediocre spiritual life. The pressures of life and struggles require strong spiritual growth to help us keep up with it—and this is the way of our life to eternity.

 Today’s devotional

1. Are we still spiritual babies? For how long? Is there any growth taking place?

2. What are our struggles in the process that is done by God in this life? Which process is a part of God’s program to mature us? Does that process help us?

Today’s actions

Let us understand that all things are God's process of maturing us.

About this Plan

Spiritual Discipline

Every person will surely grow both physically and spiritually. Physically, we need food to support our body’s growth. Spiritually, we also need spiritual food, which is the word of God, to support our spiritual condition. We need to make sure that our daily spiritual food is sufficient and nutritious. Let’s have spiritual discipline so that our spiritual life will grow faster and higher.
