While a community of accountability is vital for recovery and freedom, ultimately we are accountable to God alone. Just as surrender and confession required us to face God with our iniquities, the same is true of accountability. Nothing is hidden from God’s sight so it’s not a matter of deception as much as it’s a matter of repentance.

As you establish an open dialogue with accountability partners, it’s important that you continue to establish an open dialogue with God. Whether it is in the moment of temptation in surrender or the moment thereafter in repentance, take the time to seek Him. The Lord of your life is the best partner you could ever have. He will provide a way out from temptation, but is also there to provide you with grace and encouragement when the enemy feeds you lies and shame.

It’s important that your relationship with God be central in your relationship with your accountability partner(s). Whether on your own or with your partner(s), how can you bring God into your accountability plan?
