90 Days to Wholeness: A Porn Addiction Recovery Devotional for WomenSample
We live in a society of instant gratification, and recovery is no exception. Addiction itself is a form of instant gratification. When we finally come to the decision to change, we want to change... now. Perhaps you acquired this devotional for that very reason. You’re expecting instant life change.
It is said that it takes 21 days to form a new habit. However, in recovery, most 12-step groups challenge you to attend 90 meetings in 90 days because it is during this time period that most relapses occur. Addictions don’t form overnight and recovery is not an overnight process.
For the first 18 days of this 90-day journey, you’re going to learn and put into practice what it means to surrender, not only your behaviors, but your whole self to God. For some, surrendering to God can be a challenge because perhaps you don’t have a lot of trust in God at this point in your journey. Or perhaps you don’t know God all that well or even at all. But in order to heal, we must first restore our view of God and believe we can do all things through Him who gives us strength (including be healed and be restored from addiction) as according to Philippians 4:13.
Have you accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior? If you haven’t, this is your opportunity. It doesn’t take a big production. Just your open heart. If you are ready, here’s a simple prayer:
Dear God,
I admit that I’m a sinner. I have done many things that don’t please You. I have lived my life for myself and for that I am sorry. And I ask You to forgive me. I believe that You died on the cross for me, to save me. You did what I could not do for myself. I come to You now and ask You to take control of not only my addiction, but my whole life; I give it all to You. I know that I will never be perfect, but help me to live every day in a way that pleases You.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Finally, the attributes of God are everlasting, faithful, good, generous, holy, unchangeable, infinite, just, loving, merciful, all-powerful, all-present, all-knowing, sovereign, and wise.
From this list, choose five that you find easy to believe about God.
Why do you believe these attributes to be true?
