90 Days to Wholeness: A Porn Addiction Recovery Devotional for WomenSample
When we go from having no accountability to full accountability for our behaviors, thoughts, and patterns, it’s easy to deceive someone when we slip in order to avoid further feelings of guilt and shame. When someone is looking right at us, it’s difficult to face the truth. It’s hard to say, “Yes, I messed up this week.” It’s hard to admit we still need help.
There is no room for pride in an accountability partnership. This is why it is vital that the accountability partners you choose are people who are unafraid to unload their own weaknesses. Accountability is being real and feeling safe enough to do so.
Being able to confess to our accountability partners if or when we mess up allows us to learn from our mistakes. You’re able to talk to your partner and examine the events that led up to acting out. You’re able to redesign your accountability approach to help you flee from temptation the next time. You are only asking for your addiction cycle to keep going when you’re not completely forthcoming with your partner.
Pride destroys recovery. Humility makes recovery possible.
Has pride ever got in your way from truly being accountable for your actions in the past? Have you ever lied or omitted facts about your walk to your partner? If so, why?
