The Hope of Christmas

DAY 3 OF 10

The Christmas Tree

Long ago, a pastor named Martin Luther was the first to bring a Christmas tree into the house. It is said  that one night before Christmas, Luther was walking in the forest and saw the stars shining through the branches of the trees. He cut down the tree,  brought it home, and decorated it with candles. He told his children that the tree reminded him of Jesus.

You see, he said, Jesus left heaven to come to earth for us. He came because He loves people so much.

After a short time though, He had to die on cross. That cross was really a tree. Some people who didn’t believe in Jesus sent Him to die on that tree. They sent Him there because they cared more about power than people. They thought that if Jesus died, they would have the power. But Jesus knew that if he died on that tree, He could take all the sins of the world with Him. Then, people could walk with God, talk with God, and one day, even live in heaven with God.

1 Peter 2:24 says, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness.”

Wow, you probably never thought of a Christmas tree that way. We want to encourage you and your family that as you take the time to decorate your Christmas tree, remember the real meaning  behind it. It’s not about the decorations and the presents.

It’s about the true gift that God has given us. His Son. So that we can  remember Him, be thankful, and love Him for what He has done.
