Eat This Book

DAY 7 OF 7

Read: Daniel 1:1-21

Process: Daniel is taken away from the comfort of his home and placed in Babylon. Daniel leaves behind his culture, friends, and place of worship. He finds himself living in a completely new place that is very secular and worldly. In this new city, Daniel is exposed to all types of people, entertainment, religions, philosophies, and teachings. What is happening today as young Americans attend college? Research shows us that 60-70 percent of teenagers who regularly attend church stop attending during the ages of 18-22. The fastest growing group in America today is the "Nones." This is a demographic of young adults who say they believe nothing about God, faith, or religion. One in three 18-29-year-olds make up this demographic.

Act: Many Americans’ faith will be put on a shelf, becoming a much lower priority than during our journey. Many young people will even walk away from their faith. What should a believer do to keep a strong faith in an increasingly secular society? They must learn to EAT THIS BOOK! There must be a conscious decision, just like there was in the life of Daniel and his three friends, to only bow down before one name: Jesus Christ. Many things and people are battling for your attention and your worship. The question is, will you stay focused on the only One worthy of it?

Prayer: Lord, thank you for the example of Daniel, showing me the importance of EATING THIS BOOK and worshiping You alone. Give me the passion, discipline, and desire to help rewrite the narrative of humanity, believing that only you, God, have the power to heal, change, mend, and restore what is broken.
