6 Words That Will Change Your LifeSample
I watched a lot of Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood when I was growing up.
During those 30 minutes of goofy sketches and imaginary characters, Mr. Rogers would tell us kids that we were special and unique, ending each program saying, “There's no person in the whole world like you. And I like you just the way you are.” Maybe that’s why so many kids watched the show. We needed to know that.
Unfortunately, that message fades with time. In its place, feelings of failure creep in, bringing a hatred for what we see in the mirror and feel in our souls. Mister Rogers heard from countless adults struggling with self-image problems, depression or loneliness. They happened across his program and stayed tuned in because they found acceptance, love and hope in his simple message to kids.
Yesterday, I mentioned that God spoke “almost everything” into existence. Let’s talk about the exception.
Imagine God Himself walking among His new creation. Maybe He patted a hippo’s head, scratched a leopard’s back, or allowed an eagle to alight on His shoulder. But there was something missing from His creation that would make it “very good.”
So, God knelt in the mud of the earth and began to sculpt. He used His bare hands to craft something unlike anything He had spoken into existence.
Now imagine God, covered in mud, breathing His own divine breath into the mud, man.
This holy exhale infused life into the form, and before God, right underneath His face, was a man made in His own image. A man who in many ways, but not every way, was like Him.
The first thing Adam saw, was the smiling muddy face of God Himself. Here was his Creator, face-to-face with him, instantly demonstrating the intimacy between Creator and creation.
Have you ever questioned why God made you the way He did? Maybe there’s something about yourself you don’t like. I remember having a zit problem in high school. I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror. Tetracycline helped to clear up my acne, but it didn’t clean up my poor self-image.
Ultimately, I didn’t need tetracycline. I needed a dose of the truth that God made me to be me.
All of God’s creation is amazing, but humanity alone was handcrafted by God and infused with a soul through His divine breath.
You are special, not just because Mr. Rogers says you are, but because God made you just the way you are.
Imagine God smiling over every person He’s created—including you! Let the truth that God loves you as you are sink into your soul. Be a people watcher today. Pray for each person you encounter. Pray that those who don’t know Christ personally would be reunited with their Creator through the salvation Jesus offers.
