Scientists argue, theologians debate, apologists apologize (just kidding), but the creation act was way more impressive and complex than any scientist or theology professor can ever fully comprehend or explain.  

When God said, “Let there be light,” there was light. When He said, “Let there be sky,” there was sky. When He said, “Let there be…water, land, trees, fish, birds, bugs, animals, anything and almost everything,” there it was. His words spoke creation into existence.  

God is the only being in this universe who can speak something from nothing. He speaks, and it happens.  

I’ll never forget one time when I was in fourth grade, and I was trying to speak my own reality into existence. I ran in the dirt field in the back of our apartment complex, determined to fly like Superman. I thought, “If I can believe it hard enough, then I can make it happen.” So, I began to run, jump and chant to myself, “Fly. Fly! Fly!!!”  

I looked like a crazy kid running and jumping through an empty field with my arms extended forward. More than once, I ended up face-first in the dirt. 

Try as I might, I couldn’t speak my own reality into existence. Nobody but Jesus can do that! 

He created the visible things that we see every day, as well as the invisible ones we don’t see, but which are just as much a part of reality. 

Not only is He the Creator, He is the Sustainer and Ruler.  

From the first chapter of Genesis, to the last chapter of Revelation, God is large and in charge.  

The same God who said, “Let there be light” in the act of the universe’s creation said, “Let there be light” in the act of your spiritual regeneration. He illuminated your soul and carried you out of the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of His dear Son. 

When God speaks, powerful things happen. Universes explode into existence, and souls are eternally transformed. That’s one reason it’s important to take His Word—The Bible—seriously. As you read it and let it sink into your soul, His Word will create new realities in your life! 

Take a look at your attitudes and actions and consider whether you are living like you really believe that God is large and in charge. Are you busy stressing and striving and trying to “control” every aspect of your life? Or are you learning to rest in His sovereignty and be content in all things, knowing that come what may, “in him all things hold together”?
