There's Hope For Today

DAY 216 OF 366

Blood stains are difficult to remove.

Blood-stained clothes are consigned to the rag bin. Blood-stained carpet is removed from the crime scene. Blood-stained evidence resists all efforts to stifle its testimony. Blood stains and spoils. Blood is a contaminant – just watch them rush a basketball player off the floor when the blood starts to flow. Outside of the body, blood possesses few redeeming qualities. But inside the body, blood cleanses. Two thousand years ago, John used blood as a startling word picture to describe the cleansing that comes from the sacrificial offering of Jesus Christ. John had no idea that his words were medically correct.

While you are reading, your blood is cleansing your body. Far beyond your awareness, the red cells are loading up on oxygen, dumping out carbon dioxide, transporting toxins to the kidneys, and retiring to the liver and spleen for recycling. With every breath and every beat of the heart, God’s rhythmic cleansing process washes the body clean. Jesus’ shed blood has a separate purpose: To cleanse the soul from sin.

Just as your body is sustained by cleansing blood, your spiritual life is dependent on His cleansing blood.
