There's Hope For Today

DAY 218 OF 366

Instant and ready communications have given modern day ambassadors a reasonable assurance that they can speak for their principal any time, any place.

Not so long ago, news and inquiries traveled across the ocean waves in wooden sailing ships. The ambassador might be out of touch with his homeland for months on end. It was essential that the ambassador have a thorough knowledge of the whims and wishes of his king or minister. Paul chooses to describe everyday, ordinary Christians as ambassadors for Christ. It would follow then, that we should know Him well if we have any hope of properly representing Him to a desperate world.

Could it be that much of the confusion that clouds the Christian witness can be traced to an inadequate knowledge of God? Could it be that we have settled for just enough religion to get our hides into heaven, but not enough relationship to gain Jesus a serious hearing in the public arena?

If we were hired to represent a golf ball manufacturer, we had better know and love golf. If we were hired to represent the dairy industry, we had better enjoy milk and cheese. What if we were called to represent Jesus?

Good morning, ambassador.
