There's Hope For TodaySample
The blueprints number more than 60 pages. The book of specifications is thicker than a phone book. One building; millions of dollars; thousands of decisions; it’s hard for me to believe that this mess will ultimately become a new church building.
I wouldn’t dare build without a plan, and yet people in astonishing numbers live their lives without a blueprint. Aiming at nothing, they hit it every time. Failing to make up their minds, their unmade minds unmake them. Drifting through life, the rudder never bites, the sails never fill, no oceans crossed, no grand discovery. Our lack of purpose is captured in the lyrics of our music. “I can’t get no satisfaction – All we are is dust in the wind – I still haven’t found what I’m looking for – All in all you’re just another brick in the wall.”
We live in the age of synthetic religion. You can put together your own faith from bits and pieces of world religions and believe in anything that you want. This new synthetic faith doesn’t have to answer to logic, reason, or truth. As long as it works for you, who cares?
It all leaves me to wonder what kind of house would result from mixing random pages from 50 different sets of blueprints. I wouldn’t live there – would you?
