Abiding in the PsalmsSample
He listens
My Dad is notorious for having selective hearing. I don’t think he hears half the things that I say, but somehow in summer when the cricket is in the background all day, even though he only stops to watch it occasionally, he knows exactly what happened the whole game.
Sometimes it also feels like God has selective hearing, like He only listens to some of my prayers and chooses not to hear others.
This passage states clearly that this is not the case at all. God listens to His children. He knows us better than we know ourselves. He wants us to speak to Him, to pray, to hear, to walk with Him. We can have confidence in knowing that He listens—no matter what we have done, no matter what we have become, He listens. No matter if you acted better today than you did yesterday, or if you acted worse than you did the day before. “He hears us “(v14). He delights in answering our prayers. So if He hears us, He answers us.
Sometimes we don’t get the answer we want, and we think that God hasn’t answered our prayers. However, God’s will, His knowledge, is perfect. So it may not make sense to us, but He knows what He is doing. So when we feel like we are waiting for an answer, know that He is in the middle of it all “working for the good of those who love Him”, and find peace in His goodness.
Pray
Heavenly Father,
I often think You aren’t close to me because I don’t get the answers that I am looking for. Help me to trust in You and Your perfect plan and not to look to the plan that I have created for myself. You have complete knowledge and You are completely good. Help me to remember that when I am waiting to see the way in which You answer my prayers,
Amen.
