Abiding in the PsalmsSample

Abiding in the Psalms

DAY 25 OF 63

Safety and security

This psalm refers to the city of our God (Jerusalem) and his holy mountain (Mount Zion). These are images for where God dwells – it is high above other mountains, and it is a fortress. The city where god dwells is beautiful.

The psalm then moves to how people can interact with God’s city. There are the people who aren’t part of the city who try to conquer it, but as they approach, they are terrified, and God ultimately defeats them.

Then there are the people who are in the city, and they are secure forever. These citizens of God’s mountain spend their time praising God and remembering His love for them, and they declare that God is their God forever.

If you are a Christian, you have been welcomed into God’s city. This means that God provides you with spiritual safety and security. Even if you find yourself in a difficult situation, you have absolute assurance that God will be with you and will not leave you alone. You also have the promise of spending eternity in God’s city – the new Jerusalem – or what we now call heaven. He will be with you forever, and you will praise Him for His unfailing love forever, living in God’s Holy City for eternity.

For right now, let this bring you comfort that God has great plans for you. If you feel like God has abandoned you, remember that He gives you safety and will not leave you.

Take time to pray and “meditate on his unfailing love”. Remember how great His love is for you, remember what He has done for you, and remember what He has in store for you. Thank Him for all of this and ask Him to help you remember it when you are feeling under attack or like He isn’t there.

About this Plan

Abiding in the Psalms

The Psalms express the feelings and emotions that sometimes we find too hard to express to God by ourselves. Through diving into the Psalms and their different forms , the aim is that readers can lead prayer-filled lives, crying out, praising and worshipping our God through every season and in every moment.
