Attentive to Jesus’ Presence
Hebrews 2:1, 3-4
“We must pay more careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away…This salvation, which was first announced by the Lord, was confirmed to us by those who heard him. God also testified to it by signs, wonders, and various miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will.”
It’s easy to drift away from the truth of the gospel and the reality of Jesus presence in our lives. Our salvation becomes a historical event and not a current reality. However, for those attentive to the work of God in their lives, the Holy Spirit is daily confirming Christ’s saving power and truth through signs, wonders, and miracles. Rather than becoming the focus of our relationship with Christ, these signs and wonders point to the presence of Jesus – our first love and Savior. Without the reality of Christ’s Presence evidenced through the work of His Spirit, we drift into an intellectual abstract arm’s length perspective of God. Pay careful attention, drifting will cost us!
Lord Jesus, you are my focus and first love. Thank you for the Spirit’s reminders of your Presence and love. Forgive me for minimizing the value of signs, wonders and miracles to keep me attentive to you.
