Listening To The Word - 1 Year

DAY 135 OF 365

Who Do We Surround Ourselves With?

Chronicles 25:1; 27:33-34
“David, together with the commanders of the army, set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman and Jeduthun, for the ministry of prophesying, accompanied by harps, lyres and cymbals…Ahithophel was the king’s counselor. Hushai the Arkite was the king’s friend. Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada son of Benaiah and by Abiathar.”

David delegated authority and responsibility to many others for the management of his affairs and the defense of the kingdom. This releasing of authority and the empowerment of others developed a culture of ownership among the Israelites for the outcomes of their contributions. Interestingly, it was the army commanders who contributed to the discernment and calling out of the prophetic gifting and responsibilities. David’s generals knew the importance of worship and intercession in their military strength. They understood their strength came from the Lord. David’s counselors were also men who heard from the Lord. They knew God’s word and his ways. When Ahithophel betrayed David in Absalom’s rebellion, he wasn’t the only counselor on whom David had relied. His friend Hushai was critical in confusing Absalom and in saving David’s life. There is safety in a multitude of counselors.

Lord Jesus, thank you for friends, especially those who know your voice and ways.
