Freedom in Families
2 Samuel 13:20-22
“Her brother Absalom said to her, ‘Has that Amnon, your brother, been with you? Be quiet now, my sister; he is your brother. Don’t take this thing to heart.’…When King David heard all this, he was furious.
Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad;…”
How families communicate is an indication of how healthy they are. David’s family had learned not to confront difficult issues and sin. Amnon’s rape of Tamar was not discussed or confronted - not by David or by Tamar’s brother Absalom. Tamar lived in disgrace with no opportunity for healing. Perhaps it was David’s own sins of adultery and murder which kept him from freely confronting sins in his children. Without that freedom, sin strongholds are passed on to the next generation. The impact of sin is death - death to intimacy, trust and freedom.
What conversations need to happen in your family?
What next steps to freedom are you willing to take for the sake of the next generation?
Those, whom the Son sets free, are free indeed.
Lord Jesus, I repent for avoiding the difficult conversations about sin and its effects. I pray for your freedom to touch every part of our family, for your glory.
