DAY 112 OF 365

Risk-taking Obedience

1 Samuel 26:16-17, 21
“‘…Where are the king’s spear and water jug that were near his head?’ Saul recognized David’s voice and said, ‘Is that your voice, David my son?’…Then Saul said, ‘I have sinned. Come back, David my son. Because you considered my life precious today, I will not try to harm you again. Surely I have acted like a fool and have erred greatly.’”

Why did David enter Saul’s camp and steal his spear and water jug, when he knew he was risking his life?

David wanted to prove to Saul and those around him that he was loyal to the king. He also wanted to expose the murder and jealousy in Saul’s heart and how foolish it was. The battle for legitimate authority in Israel was won that day by David. He honored God’s authority in Saul and risked his life to demonstrate that faithfulness. When risk-taking obedience is focused on the glory of God and not our own reputation or self-preservation, God’s Spirit uses these stories to strengthen and reinforce his ways and kingdom DNA in his people.

What is God calling us to risk today for his glory?

Lord Jesus, may you be glorified in my life, my family, my ministry and the world. I pray for courage today to risk all for your kingdom mission and glory.
