"Jesus Started It All"

Before we start the roaring adventure in Acts, we have to realize that it’s only half of the story. The Acts of the Apostles was always bundled with the Gospel of Luke, which tells us about Jesus' life ministry.

There are many similarities between Luke and Acts. In Luke, Jesus receives the Holy Spirit as He prays. In Acts, the same thing happens to the disciples when they pray. Both Jesus and the disciples perform many miracles. Jesus and the disciples were persecuted, and still they prevailed.

Most of all, Jesus constantly went to people far from God, just as the disciples went to the ends of the known world to share the Gospel.

The disciples were able to do all that they did because Jesus did it first. Jesus went ahead of them, just as He goes ahead of us now. The Book of Acts happened because the Gospel of Luke happened. As we prepare to live out this adventure of Christianity, we can be encouraged by the fact that Jesus goes ahead of us. He is our guarantee of success.

Knowing that Jesus went ahead gives us confidence and humility. Which of those two can you really relate with? What are some things that you know God is calling you to do that you’re nervous or unsure about? How does knowing that Jesus went ahead help you find courage?

Pray and thank God that He did not send us into the world alone. But He went first and won the victory so we can reign in life. Step out in faith this week! What’s one act of obedience that you know God’s telling you to do? Pray before you do it, remembering that Jesus went first, and then do it!
