Read To Me Daily Semester 3

DAY 65 OF 82

LAMENTATIONS 3:
A warning for modern times appeared in chapter 2 of Lamentations:

Lam. 2:14 NLT Your prophets have said
so many foolish things, false to the core.
They did not save you from exile
by pointing out your sins.
Instead, they painted false pictures,
filling you with false hope.

The last so poignant line from yesterday’s reading was,

22 … “The enemy has killed all the children
whom I carried and raised.”

Today Jeremiah again speaks in the first person.

PROVERBS 12b:
Here is a favorite verse to introduce today’s proverbs:

Pro. 12:23 GNT Smart people keep quiet about what they know,
but stupid people advertise their ignorance.

EPHESIANS 2:
The first chapter of Ephesians has 4 instances of ‘joined with Christ’, and in chapter 2 the same words occur seven more times.

In his first chapter, Paul wrote in a formal style and showed his enthusiasm for his topic by his use of long sentences in Greek. Verses 3-14 are one long sentence, with a cascade of phrases modifying other phrases. And verses 15-23 are another long sentence. Long sentences like that seem clearer to me in Greek than they do in English. Another notable place Paul does this is in Colossians.

Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, we pray to You as the king of all kings, supreme over all heavenly rulers, and superior to all those in power on earth. You are also the head of the church, and the One who completes all things everywhere. Lord, transform us by your Word! Open and enlighten our minds. This enlightenment happens— not by emptying our minds— but by filling our minds with your truth and wisdom. Help us to understand the hope you have called us to. Help us to begin to grasp the wonderful blessings You have promised us. Help us to believe and then actually experience God’s power at work in us, which is the same power that raised You, Lord Jesus, from death. Help us to appreciate what it means to be part of your worldwide body. We thank You for the Holy Spirit which teaches us and empowers us. What do You want to do in us, and with us, today?
